Portneuf Valley Bike to Work encourages residents of all ages in the Portneuf Valley to try bicycling or walking as a means of transportation. The goal of the month is to encourage residents to develop new and lasting commuting habits that result in healthy transportation choices. Portneuf Valley Bike to Work is a cooperative effort of business, organizations, individuals and government agencies.
Bannock Transportation Planning Organization’s Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) shows that many of the region’s primary roadways will be congested by 2020. The LRTP promotes bicycling, walking and public transportation as a way to reduce the future congestion.
Portneuf Valley Bike to Work is more than just trying to get people to bike to work – it’s an effort to establish a more sustainable transportation system, improve the health of participants and to establish a lifelong habit of bicycling. The Portneuf Valley is a perfect place to bicycle or walk for transportation. An average vehicle trip is only 2.5 miles and most bicyclists can make this trip within 10 minutes.
